Seri sez: I beg your indulgence.

December 11, 2009

Did I miss another one? It’s been pretty hectic for me the last few weeks and I haven’t had the spare brain power to blog, as evidenced by my recent string (is two a string?) of missed Thursday posts. I hope to have something for you next week. In the meantime… here, have a holiday recipe from my dear friend Mayada:

Spirited Pecans

1/2 Cup Praline Liquor
1.5 Cups Sugar
3-4 Cups Pecans
Candy Thermometer

Spread out a long sheet of parchment paper (about 2 feet) on a flat surface

Mix the Liquor and Sugar together, then stir gently over high heat until the syrup reaches Soft Ball stage on the thermometer.

At that point, dump the pecans in and keep stirring until everything is covered and the coating starts to look grainy. Dump out onto the parchment and cool.

If you make a bunch at once and don’t want them all out, throw ’em in the freezer!

  1. To add to the insanity of these pecans… after they’ve cooled, there will inevitably be little clumps of sugar left behind that didn’t stick to the pecans. But this is not just any sugar. This is Praline Liquor flavored sugar. Omnomnom. It works really good in coffee and tea for a little extra flavor! Or… you can just eat it. 😀

  2. As I sit here and wonder the odds of Seri google imaging a pic that looks exactly like our cat on our area rug… o.O

  3. It does look creepily like Greyson has been sneaking on the Mac and posting pictures of himself on the internets.

  4. So do I need to retaliate with the Spiced Rum Balls? We’ll just get everyone tipsy for Christmas!<3

  5. A couple of variations on this that you might try at some point … (1) swap a portion of the sugar out with brown sugar for a richer flavor, and (2) add a little cinnamon for an extra zing! Note the recipe I use is a little different but those did work out quite well for mine 🙂

  6. We still love our snarky priests

  7. lol nice recipe.

  8. This recipe is missing an important ingredient. I hate to be the one to point it out, but it should include “Nim’s house” in there somewhere.

Directions to Nim’s house: drive east from Seri’s and turn at the Space Invaders mailbox. Stop when you see the 8-bit house numbers.
